Is it me or what- lack of confidence in Metzlers

Has it been determined yet if putting the taller Bridgestone on will keep the ABS from working?

Yes, it's fine. Just don't go too much smaller on the front at the same time. I believe 1olbul has said it's ok to go down to a 140 on the front with the B/S on the back without effecting the ABS.

The Metzlers are a safety hazard, imho. Too many Captains have gone down due to their poor performance.

Come on seriously ... thousands of Owners the world over have done millions of safe miles on the ME880's .. to deem them as a "safety hazard" is a bit rich Dragger.

they don't like to be pushed and let go with out warning that is why the only one I had was the one that came with bike probably be alright if you don't push it to limits in the twisty stuff

Got 125.000 klms on my RIII .. only ever run ME880's .. only ever had them feel 'unsettled' when they were way past their use by date , always been me trying to squeeze those extra kilometres out of them. Could of course be my superb riding skills at play here ..hahahaha

If you are "locking up and sliding" your rear tire on an 800 lb motorcycle, maybe you should try the front brake. Also some riding or stopping drills/lessons would be a good idea. Less panic braking....
