Infamous Ignition Switch Issue

captain bob read my post on problem with my r3t that will give u what my problem was once i replug the plug aint had no problem since

The standard H4 Eastern Beaver kit works fine on the R3T. Plenty of room in the single headlight shell.

The fuse panel is similar to others on the market, like the Centech. It gives you fused connections for several accessories. I have run the Centech on a couple of BMWs and the Eastern Beaver on my R3T. It cuts down the stacking of several connectors to your battery and gives you a clean way to add components.

In my opinion anyone who hasn't installed the H4 headlight bypass is just waiting for an ignition switch failure.

As COMick asked.....

Anybody know the EB H4 kit part number for a R3T? I looked on the EB sight and saw a number of kits. Just not sure which one to get. AS always, appreciate any help or advise.

Hey CW, I don't know if you saw the note on the EB site regarding horns. EB specifically recommends that you do not run the horn (especially a Stebel) through the fuse block unless you install the 50 amp fuse block. I'd recommend that you leave the Stebel hooked directly to the battery and run everything else through the fuse block.

The Eastern Beaver dude, Jim, is very good about responding to emails. I would send him a note telling him that you have a Rocket III Touring model with the single H4 headlight and that you would want the relays to be mounted in the headlight shell (I personally don't recommend this) or under the tank. You should take an approximate measurement from the front of your headlight to a spot behind the steering neck. He will make up the leads to your specs. Also measure back to your battery for the length of the other leads.

EB does not list part numbers on web page. But if you order the first kit you see on the Motorcycle H4 Relay pkit page it is the right one. Order the fairing kit if you want to put relays under tank or standard kit it put them in headlight shell - they will fit.

Rainman,

Thanks! I did see your post. I am thinking that may have been my problem. I still sent an email to EB but have not gotten a response yet. I will probably put in the EB kit as well.

Well....., It happened again. Went to start the R3T last night, turned the key and.... nothing.

No lights, no sounds, nothing. I checked the plug under the instrument cluster, it was tight. I lifted the tank and looked for loose connecoters, everthing seemed to be OK. In the process of checking connectors, I wiggled a bunch of wires under the tank, Voila! I had lights!

Next time this happens, I need to likft the tank, turn on the ignition, then wiggle one wire at a time to see which one is the culprit. It sure does seem to be a wire connection under the tank. I am also going to check for loose grounds. I am not convinced it is the ignition switch although, I am ordering EB's H$ relay kit anyway.

Thanks, Dragger! I had not seen that. I'll be sure to re-route my Bad Boy horn (aka Stebel) directly to the battery tonight.

Thanks for the heads up!!! This forum is the greatest!!
