I'm a newbee with a cooling problem!

Greetings All,

Just bought a 2007 demo with 3,500 kms back in February. Just done my 16,000 kms service last week. No problems with the bike until then. Took it to Tassie for a week, when all of sudden the cooling fan starts to kick in fairly quickly. No warning lights, just the cooling fan kicjs in pretty quickly. Nothing unusual about my riding style. Hasn't changed since I bought the bike. My fellow riders of different bike brands suggest faulty sensor, faulty thermostate, faulty battery. Did notice that twice on our Tassie run, the bike woiuldn't start cos of flat battery, so down to the Triumph dealership in Ulverston. No answers to the possible cause - but I bought a new battery just in case. Bike starts OK but the cooling fan still cuts in very quickly. It seems odd that this has occured only since getting my 16,000 kms from a Triumph dealership. Any suggestions please?

I'd take that sucker back to that dealer and have his mechanic(s) go over it to find where they either didn't plug in something or possibly crimped a line when putting everything back together (....don't ask me how I know this).

First off,
Welcome aboard.
NOW, check the coolant fluid.
Raise your tank and make sure your hoses are all free and unobstructed.
Top your radiator off and take er out for a spin.
Thats the first thing I'd do.

That's what'd I'd do, top off the coolant in the radiator and in the overflow tank.

Thanks for that. I should have said that the first thing we did do was check radiator and reserve tank for coolant levels and both were fine. No crimping anwhere. So I've sent an email to the dealership that did my 16K service and we'll see what they have to say. GRRRRR. Very very frustrating.

Feb-Oct ~ 12,500 kms must is a good amount of riding and I imagine most was in your cooler season. A new battery may be quite warranted. I've gone through two on my 07 and Im holding a Odessy 625 ready in the waiting for this up coming cold season becasue my second is already showing signs of degradation. The OEM Yuasa batts don't last long with repeated cold soaking. As for why the radiator fan is kicking on so quickly? Ive no help to offer.

I use a water wetter agent, Proline, that has IMHO significantly reduced engine heat by possibly 15 F degrees, or more. Have you an oil temp gage? I relate oil temp reduction to an overall engine heat decrease. Ive seen at least a 15 F reduction in oil temp and the cooling fan doesn't work as often. The cooling fan comes on at 180. Ive not observed my oil temp above 185. Before using Proline water wetter I saw 205 on occassions.
