gday guys, ive owned a yamaha warrior for a bit over a year and although i love the bike, i need more power.....

ive looked into the raider which is a 1900 but heavier (so not much faster) and ive looked into the 110 kit for the warrior, but the small increase will probably only keep me happy for a while..

im 6'4 and nearly 150kgs so i need a big bike.

ive got 16" apes and 6 inch forward controls with an after market seat which is perfect shoulder height controls and stretched out pegs... its the most comfortable bike ive owned......


ive seen the new rocket3 roadster advertised as being de-restricted with huge amounts of hp and torque so i went and test rode an old one to get the feel.

i hated it with the rock hard seat, feet position was a little back for me, and the low t bars that were on it gave me numb hands a sore shoulders, not to mention the pipes were dead quiet..... i also thought the power wasnt that great compared to the warrior.


question is, are there plenty of after market parts for the rocket????


seats should be a given, but would apes be a possibilty, forward controls maybe???? and ive seen some open pipes around also..

any sites to look at?


ive been looking at the matte black roadster for a while, and thinking that it could be good with a heap of customising????????????

does anyone own the new unrestricted rocket3 roadster????

any advice would be greatly appreciated as id like to be swayed to buy one but dont know which way to go, and the only triumph dealer up here is small and doesnt have one to test ride.

A 1700 Yammie won't get near a stock, restricted Roadster let alone one that's unrestricted. Even being about 50-60kgs (XV's are about 300kg's I believe) heavier the Rocket makes 400+hp/tonne and 600+nm/tonne versus 283 and 450 for the twin. Ya gotta Vmax if the Stars are your thing.

My dealer unrestricted mine at the first service but I had only just run it in so don't really know what real world difference the new tune made. Do agree that more power is required though. 200hp given the weight would improve top end for sure, won't be long before the modified guys chime in and confirm.
 
As Hunty said... easy to de-restrict. But maybe not so for the NEW ones as they have a locked ECU.
I gained + 40 horse power just by changing to Reband exhaust, triple filters and a dyno.
You might prefer the standard/classic with the foot pegs more forward that the Roadster. Im 5'11" and 115 kgs and I have traction problems...

ive seen a bolt on supercharger kit as well so maybe i should get an older roadster and just modify the **** out of it???

are there any good sites for after market parts that you guys know of????

G'day and welcome from down south. Honestly mate if 16 inch apes and forward controls are your whack .. maybe a Roadsters not a good choice for you. An earlier model with the more forward pegs might better suit you. Seats and sh!t like that are easy to get , Triumph sells good seats. As far a turbo's and stuff goes i can't comment or offer any advice.

Sorry but i don't even know what a warrior is so can't comment on them either.
 


I too come from the Warrior world. My warrior has Vance and Hines big shots, power commander III and a VBAK and it cannot touch my stock R3 touring model. I can only imagine what kind of power the R3 is capable of.

I need to get the floorboards moved forward before I do any performance mods.

I love both bikes but for different reasons. Kind of like my kids!
 
IMO
The ergos on the roadster are entirely different to the star warrior and especially the raider. So It's like comparing apples to oranges. If you want a long wheel base low seat bike the Raider is a dandy. But for power you cant compare a pushrod/air cooled/ v-twin to the engine in the rocket. They are decades apart.

I have to agree with tomcat... Big apes and forward controls are likely not suited for the roadster

As far as the rocket roadster ergos... I have to admit it felt wierd to me at first as I spent years on the long wheel base low seat american style cruisers. With just three weeks and 500mi on my roadster i am as comfortable and confident as ever riding in the standard position as I was on my other cruisers. You just have to get rid of all that old muscle memory.

If you want monster power stay in the modern era with water cooled/ overhead cam/engines. Other wise you have to spend thousands of extra dollars just to catch up to the modern designs performance and handling.

Pop into the gallery and look at the pics DAMD has there of his rocket with apes. Looks kind of weird to me but will give you idea.
Forward controls are difficult. '09 and earlier have them further forward than a Roadster but I still find it a bit cramped and I'm only 5'11". There's a couple of threads on here with pics of some custom forward pegs - I'll post a link if I can find them. I tend to use my highway pegs a lot, even round town.
De-restricting is precisely that. It doesn't give any more power than is there; just makes it available. Very simple to do on any Rocket so don't get too caught up on that.
 
Don't know about the Roadster, but my 10 year old R3 has Raask adjustable footpeg rails fitted.
Power is easily increased, 200, 300, 400hp mines been there,
it's only time TLC & a little money
