I quit my job yesterday

Good for you, Fred, I had a job I hated 6 years ago, I used the tactic of still doing my job well, but being incredibly rude to the owner to get them to fire me. After 40 years continuous employment, I took 2 years off and rode motorcycles, best 2 years of my life. I realized I just wasn't good employee material (low idiot tolerance), I went into business for myself and never looked back.

Congrats Fred on the new job. You must be a very talented technician. Sounds like the old place won't be around in a year or two with the poor management in place there now. The new job will lift your spirits and life will be better. Take 2 weeks off unpaid and go to RAA X anyway.

I recently left my transportation management job of 9 years direct and 5 years as contractor before that. I have had seconds thought about going back, but I feel like the owner wasn't honest with me for so many years. It is tough for me because there is so little opportunity in my field here in Idaho. Still looking for something after 3 months.

Way to go Fred! Glad you landed on your feet running. The only thing I might suggest is look into the possibility of doing your job as a contractor.
The benefits may be less ie sick leave etc but there is nothing better than being your own boss.

Congratulations on the new move! I know exactly what you are saying! I retired from my previous job for much of the same reasons. The management was making life very difficult for us old farts with the goal in mind to hire inexperienced people at a MUCH lower pay grade and fewer benefits. I had 32 years in and my reward for longevity was that they promoted someone into the management position with only 10 years of experience...that I had trained in and put me back into working all shifts on a rotating basis!! I never had less that a "extremely satisfactory" evaluation ( management never gave the grunt workers an "excellent" rating). In fact, I trained everyone that did the same job, and never got so much as an "atta boy"! I retired a little early, and never looked back! My health had improved, I sleep better and my ulcer has healed!

I think it takes a special kind of person to be self employed. Not sure I have enough drive. Also with my health history I have to have GOOD insurance. Even with insurance my PET scans cost me almost $900.00 each until I reach my $2500.00 deductible. I don't think O'Blommy care is going to help me much.
