You are not allowed to carry a 2 inch plus blade, I have even been asked if I should be carrying my Leatherman supertool - when I explained that I am an engineer and use it for work - that seems ok.
i just check my pocket knife and the blade is 5 inches long
i guess i would be in 2 and 1/2 times the trouble.
i do get some funny looks when i whip it out to cut my steaks
if i have it in a holster they do not like it at the casinos so i have to go back to my car remove the holster and put the knife in my pocket then every one is happy
Lots of my biker buddies wear sheaths with 7-8-9 inch knives here in Florida. Knife laws in the states are very confusing because they can vary from state to state and even county and city. Much easier to just conceal carry my 9mm. Then I know I am completely legal!

First trip to UK. I was in pub with a Brit coworker (from Doncaster? sp). He was braggin when he was younger they were always brawling. I told him where I came from (Houston), picking a fight for the fun of it may get you killed. He said, nothing to worry about here, even pocket knives are illegal. (I'm carrying my 3" Gerber like I have for the past 20 yrs.) I asked him -why the h*ll didn't you tell me that when I asked you what I needed to watch out for before the trip. He said "who carries knives?"
Cultural differences.
After that - I ALWAYS check laws when I travel. France has some strange knife laws as well.
