How far will rear tires go?

yet again this subject amazes me

I feel lucky when I get over 3k out of a rear tyre

and I'm normally illegal by that time....

got 3.5k out of my 1st tyre on the Beast, but that was probably cos I'd just returned to biking after 16 months off bikes due to a bad accident so was propbably very tentative initially.

Maybe the Germans have some grudge against you guys or something...

Maybe we got grippier road surface and/or more bends on our everyday roads?

Also, we have to replace a tyre when it gets to 1.5 mm tread depth, and that has to be over a minimum of 75% of the width of tyre - big penalties otherwise. Can't run into the carcass like you suicide jockeys in the States.

Got about 12,000 out of my first Metz.
It was as bald as I am.
Got 3,000 out of my second.
Got 3,000 on my raptor and can't even tell it yet.
except on the sides where I've got it slightly rounded off.

I've been getting around 6000 and I have a cord or two showing when it comes off.

Original rear Metz replaced at 7030 miles.
Original front Metz replaced at 9242 miles.
Second rear Metz replaced at 14,040 miles.
Second front Metz replaced 16,440 miles. Replaced with Avon.
Third rear Metz replaced at 18,365 miles. Replaced with Avon.

Anything over 10,000-12,000 is fluke riding...no accelerating and no braking, or defective/improperly calibrated odometer, or reporting Kilometers.

Well this tire went 4500 miles. I keep saying 3000 miles, but I finally checked my odometer and I guess I have more miles than I realized Come to think of it, its been a while since I've driven the car.

Anyway, this tire is coming off the wheel in the morning and I'm getting my new one from discount.

Here's the tread after about 4500 very hard miles (supercharger and sidecar ... a horrible combination for motorcycle rubber).

Here's the wheel ... just to prove that its off the bike:

And here is the new tire that I'm getting tomorrow. Its a 245/50/16. I cannot wait to give it a go solo.

Just curious Geek, why not go with the Raptor in a 245/50?
