Hello,
I'm located in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. I currently ride a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Classic but since I'm turning 50 next year, I plan on giving myself a new bike as a birthday gift to myself, well that's the excuse that I'm giving my wife anyway.
I've been racking my brain over the last few months trying to decide on what my next bike should be but I think that a bike more geared towards 2-up touring would be a good idea since I often have my wife or my dad as a passenger for the afternoon, etc....
Like so many people out there, I first considered a Harley Electra Glide but the more that I thought about it, the more that I began to doubt that that's the best bike for touring and there's just too many Harleys around anyway IMO. There's something really "un-cool" about getting the same ****ed bike that ALMOST EVERYBODY else has! I think that I'd feel like just another sheep who went and drank the Kool-aid, my neighbors just did that and there's something in that that's not floating my boat. Seeing them on those Harleys just about killed my appetite for one.
Then I started thinking of getting either a Goldwing GL1800 or a Yamaha Royal Star Venture, which I think are better bikes then the Harley and the Venture can be had a
really good prices, new or used. It might be the best bang-for-the-buck out there IMHO.
I'll admit that the Rocket III wasn't even on my list but then I happened to see this big, shining black and chrome monster sitting there, all decked out with almost every bell and whistle from Triumph already on it and that was a 2010 R3 Touring. The price is right for you get and everything on the bike just oozes quality! And it also has a stock seat that's so comfortable that there's no need of buying a replacement seat. Imagine that, a bike that you don't need to spend another $1000.00 for a new seat because the OEM seat is crap!
The Goldwing and the Venture might be a little bit too much "touring" for what I need over the next five years or so, my son is only fifteen and we don't feel that we can go away for extended periods until he's older. So, a bike that's fun to ride as a boulevard cruiser, yet also be great for 2-up trips of 3-4 days at a time might be the best fit for me right now. I think that the R3 Touring might be an awesome choice!
