Hey Y'all,
this be air force mark, formerly "The Beast".
Been Waiting for areason to check back in.
Does anyone know what type of acorn nut connects the shift lever to the linkage on the tranny of an 08 classic?
One cat says a 1/4-20 and someone else says a metric.
Anyone with a service manual who doesn't mind looking it up?
I would appreciate it. I'd like to know the proper thread before I locktite it on.

it's got to be metric. everything else is.

Good to have you back AFM. The linkage is one of those item ALL Captains need to check and make sure they are locktited. They WILL get loose and fall off. 1st bike linkage fell off but was able to quick fix it and get it to the shop. 2nd bike it got loose and I just took it in and they took care of it.

The service manual shows the torque as 9 Nm but not the size. Bike bandit says it is a M6 if I'm looking at the right part you might want to check their web sit to be sure.

Skip, I changed my handle because I originally used a term for the R3 and not myself. I didn't realize how many captains call their bike, beast. Also, I think it was HeR3tic who added a very colorful post about what he does with his beast, polishing, putting on rubber etc.. and I in no way wanted to be associated with that.
I'm proud of my six year stint in the USAF and I now ride a rocket so the new moniker is more appropriate.

No, I got out Jan 86, after three years in Turkheim Germany and three @ Canaveral AFS. They wanted me to re-up and go to Iceland. Much too cold for me, so I bailed.

Awh, Iceland...how well I remember it...though it was usually in the less cold months. I was unaware the Air Force had a station there. I recall the Navy had possession of the runway and the facilities shamelessly referred to as barracks during my overnight stays in the late 70s.
