Does anyone know what the small bulb is in the lower part of the headlight housing. It is described as a "position bulb" in the owners manual. Just wondering if you replace the housing with a LED if you can unplug that bulb and leave the plug empty?

if you take out the bulb then it is possible for the two contacts to rub together and short.
i just left the bulb in and cut and tapped one of the wires.
edit
ps it is parking light
It's a parking light as Turbo mentioned above. It's a good place to wire a relay that will make accessories turn off when the bike is off.
It should be safe to cut and tape those wires as mentioned above.
