I think a few of us on here struggle with header pipes and heat issues, so I wanted to share my experience. I bought my header pipe used and it was already coated when I got it
I believe it was gray at the time. I used it for awhile, then took it off and had it professionally ceramic coated, trying to help the heat. I was not impressed, didn't think it really helped. Then I tried buying some heat shields and piecing those together, helped some but still not great. Then I bought a can of high temp header coating and took the header off and coated it myself. I really thought this helped and have ran it this way for a couple years. This year while riding, I kept thinking it was getting really hot again, so I decided to recoat it. This time I left it on the bike, just used the same can I did last time and recoated it. Of course it's important to follow directions, after coating, you have to do some heat cycles, idling for 10 minutes, then cooling for 20, etc. I immediately felt relief while riding, yes when sitting at red light for a long time, the pant leg gets a little warm, but when moving, even in city traffic, still feels much better. So I think I'm just going to start recoating the header once a year. So maybe there is no one time fix for header heat, just something that has to be maintained year after year. Attaching before and after pics and pic of product I used.
