Header exhaust leak

How does a loose heat shield cause an exhaust leak? The bolts are loose or something is cracked/blown out. WTF do the heat shields matter?

I didn't like that on mine either. Even though they never came off I added the T style clamps and never looked back.
They are stainless steel to so they don't rust !!!
Hope this helps Lupe !!!!
Where did you put those? right against the flange?

That sucks...I have the same header plate and exhaust, makes me wonder if I'll end up with the same issue.
On the bright side, its been like that for long time, i remember someone mentioning it to me in WV a few years back

Dude calm down there is no heat sheild for the Carpenter header except for the few custom built ones from Australia. Of them few I own two sets.
Heck it took years for them to develop a baffle for the end of the megaphone. Thats why people go different routes.
Whilst doing my fire clean up I ran into this sitting next to a update kit. And a full set of Jet Black tins. Of and various other parts. If hadn't used half the closet for my upstairs heater I'd probably have a bunch more goodies in there.
Still a great pipe properly finished.

The offending pipe seems to be off compared to the other 2, looks to be not centered and maybe that is why air is escaping, looked all the way around and couldn’t find any way to adjust it

Ya you could use a little rotation of #2 header tube. Remember each tube slides into the merge collector where the lower springs are.
Other then being annoyed with it. It won't hurt your bike.
