Not Wrecka here but I cut mine using a Dremel tool. I put two layers of masking tape to cover the claw for protection while I do the work. If the Dremel tool gets away then it will not scratch the claw in a area where the material will not be removed. Once finished remove the tape. Take off little at a time.
Someone wrote that, there's no need to cut the bear claw to expose the air filters, if you use the K&N RU-2780's. Please explain to me why that's true? Thank you.... Russell
As per suppliers post above "Works with or without modification to the chrome airbox cover (bear claw) and allows removal of stock airbox"
The smaller K&Ns fit under the bear claw which is open at the bottom and has ample clearance to allow air flow same as with RamAir. The larger K&Ns do require the bear claw to be trimmed back to fit but would suit higher performance mods than just a TORS like exhaust the small K&Ns and a Tune ECU or HansO tune to suit.
I simply marked it out with a felt pen, mostly following the pressing shape, then with a disc grinder with a 1mm cut off disc quietly worked my way around the shape, be careful if using this method.
I then smoothed the edges with a fine file, and there you have it.
I should add, I have left the over flow bottle in it's stock position, I'm not sure why some people choose to move it. The only thing that I did was to spray paint it black so that it "disappeared" into the back ground.
Heres mine. Used a 'wheel of death' to take the big cuts and cleaned it up with a dremel. These are 2780s. The back one is an awful tight fit without a cut, and i really like the looks of this. Chrome door edge trim to hide cut edge. The one mistake is i didn't make some of the bends gradual enough and the trim doesn't conform perfectly.
BigKel... Where did you place your air temp sensor? I only ask, because I don't see it in the photo, and from what I've recently read, it should be exposed to some cooler, fresher air, ( and supposedly your engine will run smoother ). Thanks... Russell
