2010 Rocket111 Classic
Just returned to the R111 fold after around six years away. Last two bikes 1700 Thunderbird Storm and a Yamaha Royal Star Venture, loved the Storm, Venture was very comfy, but neither were a Rocket 111! So it had to be done.
2010 R111 Classic and the Wife’s named it already! Ruby

Welcome from the Derbyshire Peak District.
We know Norfolk and the northern area of Suffolk quite well.....might see you about one summer....I think I would be able to spot Ruby......Nice machine..... Enjoy!

I’m one of the RTR OLD CREW BIKERS, we do the RTTW every year and there’s three of us on R3’s, my one and two of the new ones.

That sounds great. I've never done it myself, but I must say that after having a look at the website, I think i'd like to do it.

Do you turn it into an overnight/few days kind of trip, or do you do it as a day trip?

As a group we are U.K. wide, so we use it as an impromptu Regimental reunion. Normally we book a couple of days at a hotel and party.

Now that you've shone a light on this event, you've really sparked my interest in it.
I don't quite know why I didn't have an awareness of the event before now.

I have a biking mate who has gone to Normandy a few times and another who goes every year pretty much without fail.
In recent years, i've been trying to get the time to go over as a ride together but so far it's not worked out for me for one reason or another, but I can see that the RTTW is going to be much easier to arrange.
None of us are directly connected to the military. Only a distant connection, like many.
I know that shouldn't make much of a difference, other than perhaps those that do have, are likely to a have a deeper awareness and an emotional connection to the subject and therefore want to attend a live event such as this, when they happen.

I don't think that either of them have attended the RTTW because i'm sure that they would have mentioned it, so I think i'll have a chat with them.
It seems to make sense to me that the preferable way to take part in an event like this, is to ride there with friends.

Normandy can be very interesting, there’s some fabulous museums to visit. Bayeux is a fabulous base to use, with some beautiful buildings that didn’t get trashed during DDay. And at Bayeaux is the famous tapestry to commemorate 1066.
Another place to visit is Ypres Belgium, which was virtually whipped off the map during WW1, I cant begin to tell how much there is to see in the area, you need a month just to scratch the surface.
The Old Crew and I are doing a Battlefield tour of Bastogne (Battle of the Bulge) for four days next June.

My (Normandy riding) mate has messaged me this morning.
He's making plans to ride down to 'Centre de la Mémoire d'Oradour sur Glane' next year.
Looks an interesting place.
