I have to share an interesting experience I had while riding home from Sydney on Sunday. Stopped at The Helmet Warehouse, Yagoona NSW, to look at the new Bell Star and RS helmets. A relatively small shop but what a range of helmets and fantastic product knowledge. The staff were brilliant, especially Jade. We are so used to bad or ordinary service these days it is always a shock to find small businesses that really know their stuff, smile and are helpful.

The Bells look and feel like the great helmets they used to be especially the photochromatic visors.

Crashed my Rocket in early 2011. Raining and i hit a diesel spill from a truck , ended up under the Rocket after it bounced off a concrete barrier. My shoulder was broken in three places and i'd cracked my sternum in two ... paramedics assumed i'd broken my back. Had i have not been wearing a helmet i have no doubt i would have been killed. Understand that for some looking cool (riding helmet-less) outweighs safety. You'll probably find most of the guys on this site are pretty experienced riders. Like me some have been riding bikes for 30+ years. No way known i'd ride without a helmet ;)

I tried on a couple of the Bell fullfaces .. they were both a really good fit. The open face didn't seem to mate with my head-shape so well.

Went with the Bell Star. Black of course. So far it has been a great helmet. Good air flow and very comfortable, even on hot days. With the benefit of hindsight I think the RS is better value but I'm very happy with the Star.

I agree. I hate helmets but wear them anyway. I think of when I hit the pavement next, not if, I want to be prepared. A friend of mine who rides brags that he has never laid his bike down. I tell him he has ridden long enough. It probably won't be his fault when it happens. The last time a laid a back down was 27 years ago but I still think it could happen any day. I been in a lot of automobile accidents, I don't have anymore brain cells to spare. I am down to last one.
