GI Pro Gear Indicator

If it will help anyone, I can fax a copy of the user manual and installation instructions.
The two are only 4 pages total.
PM me with a fax number and I'll send them out.

HellFire has sent these to me and they are now on PDF . Unfortunately each page is bigger than this web sites upload limit. But if anyone wants them send me an email and I will send 2 emails back with the files attached.

Hellfire, I guess I missed this from another thread but you are running the PCIII with the GI PRO, is that necessary or can you just do the GI PRO?

My main concern was that if the GI PRO eliminates the speed restrictions in gears 1 thru 3 do the secondaries still need to be removed?

They each serve a different purpose that comes together overall to accomplish what I wanted.

The GiPro takes back control of the timing from the computer so that the programed timing retard thats built in does not occur. As you know, they built in the power reduction in 1st-3rd for safety and to make the bike more docile. The GiPro gives back the timing advance so that the power the bike is capable of developing is available in every gear. Additionally, since the top end speed limiter is ignition controlled you don't have the engine shutting off at 134mph anymore either.

Taking out the secondaries is unrelated to what the Gipro is doing. You don't have to take them out but doing so takes the airflow control away from the computer and allows quicker throttle response as well as having real-wide-open-throttle.

The PCIII takes fuel delivery away from the computer as well. With it, obviously, you have the ability to alter the amount of fuel the injectors spray.

Essentially, each thing is just taking a little more control and responsibility away from the bikes ECM and turning it over to you, to adjust and use however you want.

So no, you don't HAVE to do any other things in conjunction with the GiPro, you can put it on all by itself. You very well could be happy with just getting 5th gear horse power while in 1st gear. I combined all three to see if they worked together and to get every bit of available power I could with the least amout of money, MAPPING knowledge and time spent tinkering. I'm very happy with the results. Along with the exhaust and intake mods, I ended up with around a 16-17% power increase that works in 1st gear as well as 5th without breaking the bank.

I was originally just looking for a gear position indicator so I would stop trying to shift into 6th. When I learned what the GiPro was capable of doing on top of the display I got to thinking how to exploit it. Remember that mod with the resistor put inline with the purple wire on the gear position switch? That was to trick the bike into thinking it was in 4th or 5th so the timing wouldn't retard. I had done that one a few weeks before I found the GiPro and it worked too. The Pro just makes the modification easier and adjustable.

I'm sure you're familiar with what the PCIII, Tuneboy and removing the secondaries all do so I appologize for going over it all again. I think you said you ordered one already?, trust me, you are going to like what it does in addition to having the gear displayed.

I had thought you already took out your secondaries, were you holding off doing that for a reason? I was kind of nervous about doing it when I heard about it here but I figgured what the hell, I can always just put them back in if I don't like it. Well, I liked it ... alot. They were right about having the instant throttle response and it is very noticable.

I hope this helps, again I'm sorry for going over **** we all know already.

Can someone please help me why would you need a gear indicator?????????? newbie riders I can understand a little bit but I do not think that most Rocket riders are new riders.
You've got a Rocket don't you? Have you never tried to shift into 6th gear and felt like a dummy?

Just curious, which GI PRO ATRE did you get? Was the Triumph specific one available at the time you got yours?

Dennis

Yes it requires the Triumph specific application.
Yes you will still have to move two pins.

I didn't mean to frighten anyone with my mention of the pins, GiPro advertises that it's a "plug and play device". I wanted to make sure that you weren't suprised when it came up in the installation instructions. Radio Shack sells a little tool just for removing pins from harness plugs if you are uncomfortable doing it with a tiny flatblade screwdriver. It's not terribly difficult, just don't tug on the wires or you will be soldering the wire back to the pin. The Radio Shack tool simply pushes in on the pin side and the pin and wire pops out the wire side. To put it into the new plug it's just a matter of pushing it in till it clicks. The main thing is not to go yanking on it like a heathen .
