I'm a new 09 R3T owner and have received much help already.

I'm worried though at all the posts about clutches and tranny issues and ect....

Is the reliability on these bikes solid? I ride hard and I like to travel also.

Don’t worry, these bikes for the most part are pretty robust. Yes their are issues but try not to worry, get out and ride, you troubles and fears will dissipate as the miles add up!! Enjoy!!

Ditto what @Jag stated!
You don't hear here about the thousands of Rockets that run & run & run without issues!
My R3R has been a P-E-R-F-E-C-T bike with only a couple minor issues for seven years and 59,000+ miles!
Until something remotely like it hits the showrooms, I'll likely get another before too long.

Usually issues with the transmissions post 2008 occur through abuse or high horsepower or wrong gear change technique or all as above. Be sure to run the best full synthetic oil and correct weight for your climate- and you should be good.

What do you mean by wrong gear change technique?

I understand that he is talking about shifting. I am just curious what is constituted as a wrong Technique. I come from a world of racing motocross, so I want to ensure I do not have bad habits out of the gate. lol

I raced motocross for years back in the 70s.
Up shifting was often made without clutch and down shifting was frequently a stomp through two gears coming into a tight berm.
Those bikes have bulletproof trannys and the engines little torque.
This Rocket is a different beast.
I recommend you shift positive, making sure the clutch is fully depressed.
No stomping down shifts and avoid super quick power shifts whenever possible.
No heel shift lever!

Ditto on not using the heel shifter, iissed gears a couple times with it and wonder if that's what caused my transmission failure. No feel with it, I never missed a gear with the toe shifter
