Get a Rocket Touring Bike???

First off, welcome to the site.
Secondly, you will notice the Rocket is better balanced than any harley or harley clone (vtx).
Heat? What heat? There is no heat at anything over the legal limit.
OK,
you may notice it when idleing at a stop light, but thats about the only time.
Would I recomend getting an R3 to a grandfather?
Well, lets put it this way,

i had just got one a few months ago had a r3classic which was totaled but stb had one 08 and she thinks it is balanced almost perfect and i do too and it does have a little bit of heat coming off it but i belieave it is from the lower deflecter under the windsheild have rode mine without the sheild and noticed less heat from the engine
 
I have the standard R3 with the Mtezlers... when I focus.. I can stop at a light and keep it balanced for a second or two, after a complete stop, before dropping a foot. It doesn't feel top heavy to me.

The R3T comes stock with the exhaust flange covers. I don''t think the heat is any worse than the HD LowRider I rode before. It handels very good, is easy to ride at slow speeds.
 
It CAN'T be that bad

As you can see from the list below most of my bikes have been Air-cooled. I rode the Nighthawk from Camp Pendleton CA (N SD County) to 29 Palms CA in August. The bike got so hot on that 150 mile trip that the viscosity of my oil was GONE by the time I got there. I had to change the oil before the return trip. My Titan two stroke was a hot SOB too. The Rockets are water cooled motors. They HAVE to be better to ride than an air cooled engine at stop and go speeds.
I usually don't get cheeky, but if you want it cool all the time get a car with A/C. Or maybe a goldwing with A/C. They come with A/C right?
 
The R3T handles great for its size except you just have to be careful doing sharp u-turns.
Just like both Rockets you have to get use to people drooling on your bike.
 
Gold Wings do not have A/C....but they do have reverse....

Where are you at in Texas? There are quite a few of us around the state. I'm close to San Antonio. A few of us (RidinSunshine, SnuffcityRider, and myself that I know of) will be heading to Luckenbach this Saturday for the Harvest Classic. All 3 of our Rockets are accessorized very differently, so if you could make it, it would be a good time to check out different Rocket accessories. I know it's not often that I get to see other Rockets..
