OK here is your cir-clips




ok so let me get on my phone and I will post pictures of the shaft I have it will be with both drive dogs away from the 3/4 gears like yours notice the view of the cir-clips
Ok tried to mimic your view.





Now I know you cannot see the cir-clips on mine until you look at it from a angle which is my point. I can not figure how you can see yours unless you stretched the shaft like taffy





I'm still betting on a cir-clip not being in the groove. But hey I have never won a lottery either.

Mike, the pricing of Triumph parts here in NZ is equally expensive, ridiculously so !
I get all my parts in from the USA, for example out put shaft 2nd gear US$121.77, AU$167.41.
Including freight and tax as the parts come into the country, it was still significantly cheaper (by about 40%) to buy from the USA.
 


I agree with you Warp, as one time when I had my G/box apart when re-assembling it I didn't locate one circlip exactly 100%, after I had assembled the lower crank case, the shafts would not rotate ! had me a little stunned !
When I dis-assembled again I found the circlip sitting out where Mikes one was.
 
If u can see where the open ends of the clip u should be able to tell if there is a grove in the shaft for the clip. also if u can move the clip side to side it is not in the grove. if the clips does not grip the shaft in the grove they may eventually come out. i would recommend new clips and if they r not available i have taken a hammer and gently taped then into a tighter circle. safety glass and watch they may go across the room.
 

$4100 at Carpenter Racing, I really didn't know anyone else I'd trust to do it, certainly not my dealer. It also included undercutting the dogs and a billet 4th gear. I told him anything questionable at all, replace it, I only wanted to do it once, I think basically every gear, shift fork, and shaft, it was a 10 or 15 lb box of parts that came out that he gave me.
 
I'll have to wait til after work to dismantle the output. In the meantime I tried to get a pic of each circlip but still a bit oily and therefore shiny under the flash to see anything.

The following is a pic of the clip that sits between 5th and 4th. It's bedded fine and if you look between the ends of the clip itself you can see the groove it sits in on the shaft. I'm liking the theory of moving clips...will know more tonight.
