Garmin Nuvi GPS-$149.00 at Costco

My wife and I went to Costco today for a few items and they were selling the Garmin Nuvi 260W (4inch Display) for $149.00. The 265 which had Blue Tooth plus a carry case for about $215 as I recall.

I borrowed a friend's Nuvi for my recent drive to Texas, first time I've ever used a GPS, and became sold on these little devices. That reminds me. I must post some pictures.

The 260 package came with the windshield mount, DC plug/recharger and an accessory dashboard mount. What a steal.

Its a steal, but make sure it is waterproof and you can use the touchscreen with gloves... The zumo 550/660 is alot more expensive but are made for motorcycles with these features and many more..

The Nuvi is strictly for cager use. It was invaluable driving down to Texas and back, plus getting to N1's office. It took me right to his front door.

I won't be buying a Zumo anytime soon. Way to expensive. I'll continue to use a tank bag and maps. I suppose I could also mount one of the Nuvis to the windscreen on nice days like my friend mounted his on my V-Strom for the ride to Texas. Hmmm

I ran the aux plug to my tank bag, then just plugged the car charger for the gps in and put it in your see thru tank bag. I have a magellen roadmate 1212. I don't prgram it while driving however I can here the audible turn signals and because I am looking down at the tankbag quickly if needed there is rarely any glare issue.
Saving for the bigger motorcycle gps becuase mine is a pain to doing routes on the computer and then uploading them.

I just reviewed the 255W and it has a few upgrades, like "FM traffic updates or MSN Direct content". Amazon's review says it has "significant improvements with this new series, like a predictive technology that provides faster satellite lock, a redesigned screen with more information, terrain maps, and an exciting new photo navigation feature." I'm not sure what the last feature is all about.

I'll have to look into the 255. One thing about COSTCO, one can return any electronic product within six weeks of purchase, no questions asked. One thing I don't like about the 260 is that I have to tap the screen harder than the other one I used. It also has a different, and longer, programming sequence than the one I took to Texas.

Tim, I had actually considered putting it under the tank bag viewing screen. It's good to know someone else tried if first.

I did a web search for a comparison of the two and came up with this on Amazon's site:

"I had a 260W and I can tell you the Navigation was much more accurate then the 255W. My 260W was wiped out by Garmin Tech Support and they replaced it with a new 260W. There is only one problem my New 260W they sent me happens to be loaded with 255W software. According to other post I have read on the internet this is happening to others as well.It seems that Garmin has decided to install 2X5 Software on there remaining 260 Models. The mapping has been changed on the 255 series and it is NOT as ACCURATE as the 260 series. The new features are nice additions but I wanted a GPS for NAVIGATION NOT FOR A NEW PLAY TOY. Garmin has had several unhappy customers recently and I would advise looking into other choices as of this point.Maybe someday Garmin will decide to get some knowledgable technical People and start making a good product again. Read the reviews on POI Factory.com website to get accurate product reviews with people who have these units and can tell you about the issues they are having."

But then I kept looking and came up with all kinds of conflicting information, same as with the Rocket.

I have a Nuvi 205W RAM mounted onto my Sprint. Works great on a bike! Just keep it outta the rain! 8)

Yup...as Tugboat Tim as pointed out. I'm going to use my Nuvi on the ride home from Texas.
