Hi all,

Not very mechanical minded. Clutch failed today . I assumed cable broke but noticed the lever on the engine side just moves freely
Any ideas of cost or could it be several issues?

Many thank in advance

Yes broken lifter shaft or lifter piece reach down and see if you can pull it straight some because the cable is still hooked to it. The lifter piece is just as cheap if needed. The broken lifter shaft looks like this one.

Since it was broken professionally by a race company I can only assume mine was faulty

Great speedy and informative responses - Thanks very much. I went on to find a Youtube video on it. Don't think I'll be performing the surgery though!

Steel,

When you say its a easy replace , am I correct that radiator, water pump, front engine cover must be removed. I priced the part at $45

While you (or mechanic) is in there install heavy duty clutch springs - this will at least increase the clutch life as will limit slippage

Yes they need to be removed. It's all fairly simple. And like @Mittzy said, might as well change the clutch springs while you are in there.
