Right after my first ride, I knew I would have to do something about the heat coming off the exhaust manifold. Some of the made in China were ugly and expensive. I talked to a friend who owns an Indian dealership. They had to stop using the wrap-around type because they held moisture and caused the pipes to rus on their bikes.
My wife had an Indian Scout, and there was a kit for it, which was pre-cut and easy to install. it also did the trick. I started looking around. Of course, you have to check out Amazon. I think they even sell roadkill. Not expensive, and easy to install. Sheets of heat shield.
Remove your factory heat shields ( 3 each). clean the inside well then to make sure no oil film, use rubbing alcohol. Trace the shield with the shiny side down. be sure that it is a bit too large. Remove the clear cover to the sticky side. push it into the factory shield. press it all around so the sticky side will grab the metal shield. Push it onto the exhaust manifold it came from. Use a very sharp razor knife and cut off the extra. Repeat on the other two, bolting them all on. let sit for a while so the glue tape can be setup.
I have had mine on for about 1100 miles with no problem

I reached out to Captain Itch. They make the cr0tch protectors from Indians, HDs, etc. They said they could send me a rejected piece of leather to try and make a pattern that might work to help funnel away the heat from my chestnuts.

I think I'll see some benefit when I finally get the slipon exhaust I ordered. That cat puts out an incredible amount of heat. I was riding a few days ago when it was already in the 90's here and the bike was cooking me, especially at a stop. Even in the upper 70's today, I could feel the heat from the exhaust and on the left side of the bike.

I tried to use them twice on Indian Chieftains. Did not work out to well. I am not the only one in this area to have tried and failed.
