engine misbehaving at idle

couldn't find any loose or perished hoses under the tank, so bit the bullet and took bike to the dealers and the tech put it on the diagnostic computer and found the TPS voltage was fluctuating all over the place so a new one is on its way courtesy of triumph as this one was only fitted three months ago.
 
My kind of did the same thing at a stop light if it keeps doing it I will look at the TPS voltage.
 
O I am posting late in the game here and would like to knowif the erratic TPS voltage happend while the engien was not running? If so I would definetly suspect the TPS unit. Once you plug into the ECU and have the stepper motor retract so you can check/set the TPS voltage it should beholding steady or at leastnot be flucuating more then .01 volts. Once a steady oltage isset correctly and you verify the stepper motor movement of .12 volts the bike should idle pretty smooth and steady. I do have the opinion that sometimes the stepper motor shaft and the springs between the throttle bodies get dirty with road grime and if they act sticky it can make the motor hunt for a idle. This is because actualy voltage signals might not be correct and the ECU tells the stepper motor to adjust the idle. It does and maybe things free up or move a little more which changes the voltage reading to much and the ECU corrects it again. I also wonder how many times or how much memeorey the ECU has when making adaptive changes along with does it have the ability to keep overwriting the memory parameters. If not maybe a reset adaptives is required once and a while to clear the memory parameters. Just thinking out loud
 
sorry warp the tech did all sorts of tests around throttle wide open, snap shut,motor running and not running, I'm not sure when the diagnostics were turned on and when not ,,,,so I'm not really any help to you in your never dying quest for the right information.
 
 


Take it to the dealer and have them check the throttle position reostat, mine did the same thing, all over at idle, that fixed it.
 
It seems to me almost every time I read about someone having a problem with their bike they have dropped a different tune in it, removed secondaries, or done other mods. I realize that issues can arise with any bike, but a lot of the problems seem to migrate towards the bikes that have been modified. Am I wrong in thinking a lot of issues are self inflicted and stem from poor maintenance like checking connections, hoses, battery condition, keeping moving parts properly lubricated, etc. Just saying.
 
One of mine has been fairly heavily f#cked with and has had none of these problems. The other is about to go down the same road and I don't expect to have problems with it either. TPS sensors have been the culprit more often than not in this situation if memory serves
 

Perhaps you are a person who is proactive in maintaining your bike. Could explain a lot.
