Did the rear tire today.

This is the rebate tires I got. See my other thread about the rebate on these for basically just under $200 a tire.
Some green scotch right and soapy water and polishing pase. Tuned out much better than I thought it would for basically 5 minutes a side of cleaning.
Now to do the front.
Also I realized that you can't do the 2x6 trick without more boards to keep the drive hin and the rotor from being damaged so I just spooned the crap out of it. Jfc I hate doing this by hand! Nex time paying the $40 to have someone do it.
Also this time I had to balance it with 2.5 ounces. Is that a bit much?
When I do the brakes soon I'm going to rotate the tire on the wheel 90* and try again. I did not notice how far down the rear pads were. Almost gone!

Good on you! I've done three or four changes I think, and I'd gladly pay a whole lot more than $40, if I knew someone that I could trust to do it right. They are a major pain. Most times, getting the old one off is harder than mounting the new one! I usually wind up cutting the bead with a die grinder. For real fun, try mounting a car tire!

I forgot that the yellow dot is the heavy spot that goes away from the valve stem but the green dot lights up with the green dot in the rim.
So when I do the rear brake I'll break the bead and rotate the tire 180* and rebalance. The front tire I did this morning and it took 40 minutes total including cleaning one of the brake calipers. Was greasy.

i can not remember ever alinging the yellow dot although i should.
mine has never been off more than a few (3) 1/4 ounce.
just wondering how could they tell what the heavy side is w/o mounting and balancing?
i keep wanting to see how far off the rim is
but i keep forgeting to check.

When the cords are applied before vulcanizing the rubber. The dot is technically were they overlap. Not the rubber.
The old red dots are a low spot that works against the uneven wheel ( the opposite side the bead wires overlap)

I got the front done today this morning. SO MUCH EASIER. and i found that the left side caliper and pads were a bit covered in oil. i rebuilt the forks a while ago and they are DRY AS A BONE (no leaks). So with that cleaned up the wheel cleaned 40 minutes. I had to get up at 4:30 this morning to do it too, i had a Schluter class at 7am 40 minutes away from me and i wanted to get the tire done because i have a neighbor of mine wanted to ride 2 up and go with me to the class as a guest. FUN DAY but i am SPENT.

I've been using "Ride-on" sealant & balancer. Has worked fine for me, except for one time I got a large bolt stuck in the rear tire. Hole was so big, the sealant all came out, all over the underside of the rear fender. Have had smaller things, like nails, screws, staples, and the sealant worked fine.

+1 Ride on does exactly what it claims, i removed a rear with it in and the substance was evenly spread around tire on contact patch only, no mess at all, it only seals on the contact patch as that is the only place the ride on stuff goes to. It’s constantly moving to keep balance. I definitely like this very clean product.

Yea I also have had good results from that but once you get a balancing kit and a proper tire patch kit I stopped playing with gimmicks.
