Hello, I am new to the site and I am in the market for a Rocket III Roadster. I have ridden the classic and the Tourer but have not yet ridden the Roadster. I currently have a 2002 Bonneville America which runs great after the big bore kit and some other modifications but I still want more. I know a dealer that has a left over 2012 that I can get for a good price or should I get a 2013? Are there any changes from the 2012 to the 2013? The 2013 is the gloss paint which I believe they call Phantom Black. I am kinda leaning towards the Matte Black but I am not set on either color as of right now. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ron
Welcome .. where are you from Ron ? Sure you'll get all the pros and cons of each model from the blokes that own them. Know there are changes to the latest model.
Yeah g'day mate. I'm guessing you're not from Downunder because we call your current ride an America (without the Bonnevile). Pity really, there's hardly any other Aussies on here.
We're told the 3013 model (per se, rather than a 2013 plated earlier model) has more black paint and also the power restriction in the first 3 gears removed. Triumph gave up on the restriction because almost everyone removed it anyway. They've also introduced a tamper-proof ECU, so while you get a bit of extra oomph out of the crate you can't do anything else to it. Well actually you can, or you will be able to; just give the good folks on here a little time and you can circumvent anything. There's probably some other changes too. No sign of the "new" model down here yet though.
Funny the way gloss black and matte black are referred to as if they're different colours. Everyone knows black isn't a colour. Really they should be called Shiny (but boring) and Undercoat.
Welcome from another Aussie ,black is a great colour mate ,usually it's those poor buggers that are colour blind that cannot acknowledge such a superior colour.
To be perfectly honest, I love black bikes. Always wanted a black Rocket but the fact is I'm really glad I didn't get one. 3 out 4 Rockets are black at the moment and before long it will be around 9 out of 10. Beautiful, yes. Different, unusual, unique? No. Shame really. Don't worry zman, yours will be exquisite which ever way you go.
Thanks for the info. That sucks that the stripes are just stickers. I know these are wide stripes but Triumph always hand painted their pin stripes which I thought was cool. They could have at least painted the stripes rather than puting stickers on. I am partial to Red actually so that is always an option too, but paint work has gotten so ridiculously expensive over the years but still an option. I am about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA.
