Bike tried to warn me this morning... Hit the starter and just get a click and the display goes out. 2nd try it fired right up. Figured it was a fluke and rode to work. Sure enough, go to ride home and bike won't start Display turns on normally enough but when I hit the starter, It just clicks and the everything shuts off. Got someone to give me a jump and the bike starts right up. Pull the jumper cables and it dies immediately. I left the cables on for a few minutes, and no difference. Still dies immediately after pulling them.

I gotta assume the alternator is toast and the battery just finished dying on my ride to work. Guess I'll pull the battery tomorrow and make sure it charges normally (battery is only 4 months old). If so it's off to the dealership I go.

Anybody else have an alternator go out?

Jims aka tribal fried his alternater in Flagstaff so i helped jim change his out
of course his bike was a 2005. I would guess that you need to run some tests to confirm if yours is bad.

Hmm... brought a charger to work this morning and it reported the battery was 100% at 12.7V. I noticed though that with the charger connected, as soon as I turn on the ignition the voltage starts tanking. It starts while the charger is connected and immediately dies when the charger is removed. I'm thinking you're probably right Herman, I've got a loose main power connection. It's tight at the battery though, where is the other end of that line?

They were coming loose at the battery posts. Positive should go to starter and ground probably to the block and i would say that they are not loose.
I am thinking that the new batterry has taken a crap and you need another one.
What side of town do you work on?)
Or around Sonita?

Nah, work near the airport. The Raytheon site just south of your shop actually. Guess it's easy enough to pull the battery and take it home to load test it. If the voltage tanks while discharging I'll have my answer. Frustrating as I just got the battery from Revzilla in November. Hasn't even had to live through an Arizona summer yet. I wonder how much of a problem it'll be for Revzilla to warranty it for me. Maybe it's time to finally switch to a Lithium battery.
