Darkside/downside

Here's a question for the anti-dark-side movement. Actually this is for everyone. Has anyone ever heard of an accident or injury caused by dark-siding?

The way I see it, what determines if a tire is "proper" is relative. I find the performance of my dark side to be superior with respect to safety. On the downside, I do not like that it eats horse power but the extra traction makes it worth the loss. The counter steer is nominal and never an issue unless I am on a road with a large crown.

I am still curious why anti-dark siders are often so passionate.

Mainly because someone has posted pictures of worn sidewalls. I recall one that was worn to the point of the lettering being partially worn off.

Now you may be right that it was incorrect tire pressure. It may also be that some brands of car tires lend themselves better to being used on a motorcycle. I don't recall the brand that had the problem nor do I remember if there was any info posted as to tire pressures used.

Just asking questions, not trying to offend anyone's feelings. After all, for those still not decided on whether or not a car tire is for them, the more information available the better.

I don't consider myself anti-darkside but I don't use a car tire. I don't drive a Toyota but I don't consider myself anti-Toyota, just a matter of personal choice.

As I recall there was thread on the other site where some attributed an accident to the performance of the car tire. Others were not so sure. It was within the last year or so I believe. Otherwise, I'm not aware of any empirical data on the subject.

I hesitate to speak for others but if I had to guess I would say some of the passion comes from a sincere belief that because of the information provided from numerous engineers in the industry many feel that the practice is unsafe. Just as those who are very passionate in their belief that all riders should wear helmets. I don't think any of us want to see others needlessly put themselves in harms way.

And, when it comes to passion, I really don't think the anti-darksiders exhibit any more than the pro-darkside group. In that regard I'd have to say its a tie.

Somehow I don't think any DS would admit to this as sympathy would be in short supply under the circumstances.

In view of some replies I am just wondering how much strain this subject will put on friendships ??

I agree GP. What we all need to keep in mind when running a car tire is.....There are tons of different types and styles of car tires. Common sense should be employed when evaluating the specs. There are a lot more car tires that won't work versus those that will.

I predict the mc tire manufacturers will soon be making design changes from info provided by the ever growing darkside population.

To date I have seen only one brand of tyre even then only one of that makers tyres it is Toyo Proxes T1R which is thier top of the range tyre I have had one and took it off before it was wornout because I started to notice scuff up the sidewall right up till I put 34 psi in it but then it did not grip as well so I deemed it not safe it is the same tyre tha Triumphill was running and a couple of others also but as I said it is the only brand and model tyre that does this as far as I know. I have switch to a different tyre with not even the slightest tendency to go up the side wall even when as low as 28 while I normally run it at 30 due to my 240 lbs

It's a like a 1% does something wrong and suddenly we are all bad if you get my point

Also I said " I'm outa here" in a previous post because I get fed up trying to enlighten those that will not be enlightened and it is better than saying " all you non darksider experts that have never tried one yet make claims about how unsafe they are can go and get f.....!!
This topic keeps getting churned around and around.... Let it die use what you want if you are not interested in listening to those of us that have put many miles on the DARKSIDE leave us alone this is why I rarely go to the . Com site because of thier uneducated Opinions
Sorry if you think I am being rude but it is a bit like me saying dont light that cigarette it might kill ya ..... Freedom of choice

How much strain will this put on friendships?
None, totally none.
Lon runs a MC tire and told me in no uncertain terms when I met him the first time,
He's NEVER gonna put a CT on Blackie, regardless how much me or anybody else likes it.
It just ain't for him.
No biggie, he rides what he likes, I ride what I like.
Heck, I'm still friends with lots of guys that ride 1950 technology, and think it rocks.
I don't care what they ride as long AS they ride.
