Riding to work today Shifted from 3-4 Rattle grind clatter bang Back wheel locked up and it sounds like somebody chucked a bag of spanners in there... Anyone got any ideas...I'm guessing its going to be expensive ;(

Sounds like your rear end just went out, one of our members (Rainman) had a similar situation and yes,,, it was expensive
Glad you are ok, that could have had really bad consequences!!

sounds like your ur driveshaft went out and if it did u will probaly need to replace ur final drive also if it wasnt for my service manger it would have cost me a little over $4000

driveshaft dust this is the end towards the transmission

a little more info under lost power thread
hope urs aint as bad as mine was

That is always my biggest fear, going down the road at 80mph and the rear tire locking up
If i remember right something similar happened to our very own Cobba (RIP),
I need to start looking for a new or gently used rear end and drive shaft!

Jack her up put her in nuetral and roll the rear tire if its a rea end problem I bet you will feel it. if not then I wouls take the plugs out and put it in fist and roll it over by hand (Still jacked up and rolling rear tire) then second adn so on. if the rear does not make the noise then it is in the tranny. Then I would ask how mechanically inclinded you are?

How many Miles and do you lubricate the drive shaft every 10,000 miles if your a dark sider or at every tire change if you use a MC tire and I mean the drive shaft splines not the one that go into the tire hub.

pictured below you have to take the final drive differential off

Joolz , the spline ( driveshaft to diff) on my Rocket stripped just after i'd run out of warranty. The Service Manager at my local Dealer checked for me .. he found out that Triumph 'do not specify' their techs lube that spline. Not mentioned in any of their service scedules or in any of the bulletins/updates Triumph sends out to their Dealers. He went right back to 2006 checking for me. You have a good case for warranty as it is not an uncommon problem . They replaced mine under warranty , i had to jump up and down but got it done for free. It is a really expensive repair ... you don't want to be paying for it mate .. good luck

Some of the posts on here could be pretty handy to illustrate the extent of the problem if there's and denial of it being known. Good luck with it.
