As some of you may know, I have looked without success many times to find the above so I could fit a 12v socket.

I was reading a post Friday - Grampi I think, of a Rocketeer having just installed one with a photo. I noticed a bit of blue tape in the picture which I believe has been mentioned before.

I searched for the tape and found it, then eventully located the connector. Eureka as they say literally!

The socket I bought had a 28mm spigot so I very carefully filed out the cover from 18mm until it was a perfect fit. Now I have a socket installed. I checked it out with my meter and was surprised that it is live with the ignition off. I thought it would be switched as it's an accessory, is that right?

Do you like where that is? As in is it in the way of you riding ?
Just installed for use if I suddenly found my phone battery flat. If I intend to use while riding, I would route a cable up to the bars, so should be ok.

Yes, it is constant power

I know on the Roadster there is two different type connectors that is not connected to anything. They are both switched power presumably for heated grips or fog lights. This would be great for my Garmin GPS in which I constantly forget to unplug from the 12 volt socket or turn it off.

Be careful - The switched-power wires in those connectors are not intended to supply current for the devices: they are there to provide a control signal for a relay which switches the constant power wire in the same connector

I have had a similar power outlet in the same position for several years without issue.
Used it to plug in heated gear with no interference problems.
I have since gone with a @DEcosse wireless ignition and PDM60 which is the BOMB!

THANKS, KEN for all your help!

Yeah I that's how I would wire it. Thanks for the warning. Everything needs a relay just about. lol
I walked by my bike last night and noticed I left the GPS on even after I posted about it.

You wouldn't mind showing a diagram or something of that nature on how you would wire a switched power for a GPS would you?

Another thing is that even with the GPS off the LED on the socket stays lit. I guess this would take forever to kill the battery or drain it but I unplug it when the bike sits for awhile.

yeah done the same to mine, drilled out the plastic fitting to accept industry standard plug.
goes straight to battery, down side is you need to turn off any appliance thats connected when not running, the upside is you can neatly plug in battery conditioner via this plug, Optimate sell the adapters
