Can I have more HP on a limited budget?

If you have vibrations then check the following:

Are you still on the Bridgestone tires? Do they have more than 3000 miles on them?

If your answer is yes then get rid of them, they delaminate on the inside past 3000 miles, they are under spec for the Rocket Touring, Bridgestone un-officially admitted to them not being the right tire for the bike but they still ship them that way, Triumph blames Bridgestone, Bridgestone blames Triumph.... Just get the Avons or Dunlaps

If you are running different tires already then check your tripple tree bearings, if the bike is on a lift and you can tap the handle bars lightly to one side and they bounch back easy after hitting the full left or full right stop then they need adjustment.

If you take it to a dealer they will check it but the manual torque specs for the steering nut is on the low side, on some Tourings they need to go past the tightening spec and then back it off a bit to get the bearings to seat right. Have fixed this on 3 Tourings already.

Hope this helps.

The potential gains on the R3T are substantially more than 12%.. Unlike the standard Rocket, the R3T is under 100rwhp.. The only engine parts that are different is the throttle bodies.. The cams/gears and every other part on the engine is identical to the regular Rocket but the tune is much more restrictive..

With the filters and the Triumph TORS and the 138hp tune from Wayne I'm seeing 125+hp and the bike feels like a completely different beast.. I've got some more dyno work to do to smooth a couple of lean spots in the curve but this is great!! Throttle response is almost dangerous with the little skinny tire and it seems to comfortably cruise at much higher speeds.. Roll on has also dramatically improved!!

Fuel milage is not as good, but it wasn't that good to begin with.. I'll know more now that the weather is warmer and I can run a few more tanks through it..

I've had my R3T to just over 100 mph with no noticible vibrations. Of course, I took that P.O.S. bridgestone off at 3200 miles and replaced it with a goodyear.

As far as more H/P, I'm good with what I have. My bike goes over 100 mph, and I have no need to go that fast on it. It accelerates fine, when I pass a car, I usually glance at the spedo and find I'm already going 80 -90mph when I get back in front of them (in a 55mph zone).
I do often find myself desiring more Hp just cause I feel left out when compared to the guys on the standards and classics, but like I said, I don't have any need for it.

Regulator, if you wanna try my R3T sometime, email me and let me know and we'll see if we can work something out.

The Sprint ST is a nice riding machine. I have a buddy in Garland, Texas that has two bikes. One is the ST. I was traveling on business back and forth to Dallas from April last year through January this year. I stayed over there one weekend and hung out with my buddy. We went riding (aggressively) on the back roads of North Texas and I rode his ST. We'd get on a long straight stretch and I'd relax and take in the view. I glanced down at the speedo on one of the stretches (with one hand on the bars). It read 125 mph. It felt more like 60 or 70. lol

As far as the R3T, you're never going to keep up with a ******rocket at high speeds. By that I mean if they decide to dust you, you're going to get dusted. I owned both (R3T and ZX-6R). The R3T will run with 'em to a point, but at higher speeds, the R3T ain't going to hang without VERY COSTLY mods.

It's over 800 lbs loaded to ride. A ******rocket is **** near half that.

I think it's best to know your limits. I like to play with them by "rocketing" up to 60 or 70, about 10 over the legal limit, and just leaving them in the dust all the way.

Then I back off FAST and maintaining a sensible speed as they sail past me. Rinse, and repeat at the next stop light.

I think it ruins their fun a bit to get dusted and then have you just hand them the top end on a platter rather than having to earn it.

At least that's my little theory.

Yep, a 6th gear, or a taller first gear and a wider range between the other 4 gears would do wonders, and might even help 1/4 mile times. Legal cruising RPMs would pleasantly drop, and you would still have the power to pull away from most anything, AND have a topend speed closer to 180 MPH to boot!

Developing a new transmission would cost out the rear though! Even Hombre hasn't gone there yet... Maybe a taller final drive ratio would be easier..

If you have about $300 to spend, I would get Tuneboy. That'll give you the most bang for your buck and come in handy later if you do get a different exhaust etc.
If you have the means, a shelving the Cat Box is the single most gain. Second is the Tuneboy. I run an original/stock TourER just this way. No more no less, and it runs like a scalded cheetah.
I have to disagree with the under seat K&N filter. With all of the restrictions from the stock intake plumbing the only thing it will do is lighten your wallet. Even the undertank one is good for only abot 3-5 hp.
Screw the filter mod unless you stuff 3 under the bear claw.

as for the R3T you may be right. Does the R3T have a decel pop?

Guys, thanks...I'm basically happy with the bike, especially around 70mph...The R3t is as smooth as my GL1800 was until you take it over 80.
My 07 Tourer as well as many other earlier models do much the same. At least you're not beat to death by a v-twin.
Therefore I like to stay under 80. BTW, the bike would be perfect with a 6th gear.
A 6th overdrive has many times been said to be needed.
...but when the CBR passes at speeds over 100, my satisfaction wanes.
Either Viagra is your friend or you're not old enough to move on BusaJack is such He traded in for one of them thar crouch missiles his self. There are pictures of "Spike" somewhere around here. Here's one:

I'm not having any decel popping on my R3T. Now that could just be because my hearing sucks so bad.

Another thought on the over 100 runs. Your R3T is speed limited to 120, and it will start leveling out before that. So, runs much over 100 are pretty pointless. As mentioned earlier, run away from them up to about 80 and then back off to the speed limit. Most of them won't know you were about to run out of steam, and will zip past you thinking they've been spanked. If questioned, just reply 'Those 160 mph runs were just getting too hard on my license'.

Nice. That should get them thinking.

GeekLaw - I do this alot in my Truck. Its got torque but after a 1/4mile it sucks on top end. So when I get a chance Ill do this on the bike with abig smile on my face. It really does piss people off!!!!

mutt

Clever! Very clever...you might be a financial expert in the makings

I really am envious of the greater torque at near off the line RPMs in the latest Touring adaption. I never run out of appreciation for the torque that THE BEAST IS!
