Hey fellow RocketMen,
I want to inspect the travel on my cam chain tensioner, but I don't necessarily want to remove valve cover etc. Can I just slowly remove the tensioner nut with spring, measure the distance from tensioner to body, and add a spacer (if required)? I know there is a risk of the chain jumping if the camshafts shift or jump, but with the existing tensioner in place, is that likely?

as the chain wears the tension piston moves in to take up the slack and the piston has notches on it to to keep it in its proper place when the spring is removed.
can not remember what the distance would b4 adding spacer to the spring to create more pressure.
i put a 3/8 ball in mine others use a flat piece
of coarse it could gain a lot of clearance if the plastic tensioner would break

So you think the notches would keep the tensioner in place as I measure the distance? According to the video in another thread, maximum clearance is 16 mm. I just want to pull the nut, measure the space, and either add a spacer or leave alone.
