brand new R3 stalls out in traffic - YIKES!

which doesn't help readers of either topic find the information they seek

well i understand a guy that leaves his brand new rocket idling in the garage for 30 minutes unattended definitely needs all the help he can get. so i will get to the point.
i read most of the threads that go off topic so i am able to give u this info. some of the new bikes have this stalling and putting more miles on it usually takes care of the problem. some take it back to the dealer and they say that that takes care of the problem. hth

admittedly i am a newbie to the R3 and not much mechanically inclined either, i like to say, "i just ride 'em" i had hoped that the 1/2hr of idling would "teach" it what proper idling behavior should be

thankfully the dealer confirmed that i did the bike no damage and said that if the idiot light ever goes on while idling, ride it, so it get's some airflow and it should cool back down

before taking it back to the dealer i had about 400miles on it, and had done the "12muinute tune" without any change in it's behavior. but after riding to the dealer about 135mile, now the bike has about 535miles, it still stalled, but when getting it back, it doesn't stall out anymore the dealer was very apologetic and did admit that this does happen to some of their R3s, i was super cool about it, NOT being a ____ that doesn't help anyone, and builds bad rapor for future servicing.

so at the end of the story i took a sick day from work for a great ride there (blue skies, puffy white clouds, green trees through a mountianish highway at about 80mph) and another great ride on the way back, and all is well in Denmark

I reckon a need for ISCV reset and the fact that the engine is new and tight gave it some reluctance to keep running at low speed. And as the problem seems to be improving, it sort bears that idea out. Ride on, let that puppy break in, and be a happy Rocket Captain!

I used my TuneECU skills to bump the idle up to 900 RPMs. 455 miles on it currently and the higher idle speed stopped the loping.

oh yea, i also tried slowly let it set into idling (backed off really slow so she wouldn't stall) in the garage for 1/2hour or more, thinking this might help her computer figure out what idle is. it didn't work, all it did was get the coolant indicator turn red, and that probably wasn't good on the engine either?

I had this problem when I first got my second (current) Rocket - on my old bikes I would have simply turned up the idle, but on these a number of settings needed to be adjusted. Frankly, I think it was the fact that the adjustments raised the idle that actually fixed the problem. I've had GPS and many other issues on my first bike, but second has been reliable after I got the idle adjusted. Take it back and have them test ride it until it's fixed. Good luck.

I had same issue, 2017 R3R fresh off the showroom. Bike kept on stalling from second to first when coming to a stop. Annoying for me, told the dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong, kept riding it, the rate of stalling decreased, 600 miles so far, bike hasn't stalled after about 400 miles. I contributed it to a tight engine maybe? After she starts loosening up, idle is better and no more stalling. The dealer may have done a TPS reset or 12 min tune during the 500 mile service, but I'm not aware of them doing anything special other than the initial service.

so "just thinking" (i am thet OCD engineer type) would it be beneficial to the bike if before every ride (when the time is able to) do a 12min tune?

No. The best thing you can do is run the blighter in. Fistful of dollars and take it for a decent run or two. Tankful without stopping - no motorway - no town - up and down the gearbox. Never met an engine yet that is not improved by 5000kms.
