The frame looks straight. The forks and tubes look straight too. The tank is not wrecked. This is a great project bike. You have tools and a garage. He is probably strong enough to lift the motor. Let's expect a loose turning motor and transmission. Heck, when it runs you can put a Ducati decal on it. The motor has that look. It will keep the young man in the garage.
I bought my youngest a '79 corvette and the only way I could keep my hands off it was to grab a lawn chair and a cooler of adult beverages. I made it a point to not touch unless I couldn't explain. Then I would do something and put it back so he could learn. Took a long time, but we both learned a lot and made good memories. He still says he can rebuild an engine, but has trouble finding the Flux capacitor. Projects are cool!!!
An opportunity of a lifetime right there. I have 3 sons and they have all had a project like this that we all worked on together. Now they are adults and we ride together all the time (dirt & street). They are my best friends and it all started in the garage. Good Luck.
Neat project. Hope it's not too "hot". It'd be a shame to spend a lot of time and $$$, just to have someone from your area claim it when you get it done.
