I'm getting the hanker'n for a smaller around-town bike. Anybody know anything about the BMW R1200R Roadster?

Thanks

I had an R1150R. Great all around bike. The newer 1200's have quite a bit more power. The nice thing about the R is that its very versatile. Light enough for a city runabout, easy to equip with bags and a screen for a comfortable tourer. And as is typical for BMW boxers it handles quite well.

My girlfriend has the BMW 1200RT and loves it..this bike is amazing to ride smooth in the twisties. She's been nagging me to dump the RK and Rocket for the new BMW GTL 1600. Maybe some day i'll add it to my collection, pretty pricey at $23,000. I'm waiting for a nice new used one to come on the market.

I've had 1100 and 1150cc GS models .. both were fantastic bikes. If the 1200R is as good as they were you'll be a contented owner i'd reckon. Parts and warranty were never an issue with the BMW Dealer i used.

The BMW R1200R is an amazing bike. I hate to say it, but when it comes to comfort and ingenuity, BMW has to be top of the line...everything from hinged, flexible driveshafts, to steering dampeners on the forks. The boxer engine is also great as due to its horizontal placement, it keeps the bike's center of gravity low and easy to control. I would highly suggest getting the engine skid plates that attach to the outsides of the boxer engine, cause if you drop it your not just scratching paint or denting gas tanks, you're potentially cracking the block.
