Blank display, No status lights, and other issues

If it's not the battery, ignition switch would be my next guess

At least the battery is a relatively easy fix, if that's the problem. I don't know that it's ever been replaced, so maybe I'll get lucky. I'll get it checked at lunch today.

I've had concerns about the ignition switch in the past, but the problem was some kind of iffy wiring in the wiring harness somewhere. I'm really hoping my luck holds out on that one.

Okay, so at lunch I had the battery tested at both O'reilly's and Autozone, both say that the battery is good, 80% charge give or take. What should my next step be? Is it time to spring for the keyless system?

I would try a battery maybe of your dads or adding a 12v battery in parallel or jumping, then I would check voltage and all systems once you get it running, it was good when you parked it and needs to be started before throwing parts at it. IMO. If you put your pops battery in it after starting his bike fine or adding a 12v parallel and getting fired up you’ll know more. A single 80% battery won’t fire my beast up.

Alright. I'll bust out the jumper cables when I get home. Appreciate everyone's input thus far and will keep updated.

Once you get all systems go the Decosse keyless is awesome for sure I love mine, great upgrade. There have been 3 08 model tourings to have a stator go out in the last year, ( 2 of us on forum we performed repair with help from guys here and a person I sold a part too and was in communication with) I’m not saying this is it but stator check is fast and easy, ohms test at 3 wire stator lead at rectifier it doesn’t need to be running, if good on that test, once running check voltages at battery as the rectifier should be charging battery and you should see 13.0 to 13.4 type numbers, I’m not trying to be an expert but these issues I’ve went through with the master as have many others he has taught about this very sequence of issues.

Once you add some juice you should see her come to life with key switch on and before you hit button

This is what’s giving me pause on the battery, you had it in a trickle charger and it was only 70%, then you gave her a charge, still bike is dead per say, then they check battery which has been on a trickle charger and you gave her a charge and the battery is 80%, that battery should go to to full volts on trickle charger and definitely once you charged it I presume stand alone real deal charger. The smell in your garage more than likely that battery making the smell. Anyway get the skunk running and you can diagnose better.

I see what you're saying; the smells I'm referring to are specifically exhaust, and more recently burning metal from bolts being ground off / drilled out.

Some pictures of a agm battery I have not in bike and hasn’t been on trickle charge for over 2 weeks. While charging in trickle charge 13.11 13.14 then off charger no where close to full yet it shows a steady 12.82 then a load test no load on battery and it is showing 541 cca this battery is full charge at about 12.99 and will show a cca number of 640 with no load on the battery it’s not 1 year old and is a good battery, hope this helps for info purposes. I will do again later to show a completely charged battery this is a 310 cca agm sams club battery Duracell etx20
