This type of lift would seem to provide the most open access to all parts of the bike as well as ease to move the bike in a garage... what is the upside to a full platform type of lift?

Go into any bike workshop and lift platforms are what they use, even if they then want to use some other jack under the bike on the platform. Just easier all round.

Yep that was my way of thinking too mate the other part I put the pic up of is only $80 and can be used in conjunction with the lift . The platform gives u great stability and working height at any part of the bike. Can even do an oil change on it with easy access to sump plugs and room for oil catcher under bike without having to get down low to access them , bit hard to do that with a jack jammed under it lol.
The only other one which I would say is great is the one Bubz is using I even thought about buying one but thought the price wasn't realistic . Great product though I would have purchased one if it was cheaper but I like the idea of the platform and my shed space is for my bike and tools only so I don't need to pack it away after I can just leave it out.
unfortunately I have A Lot of Tools and Only a small Garage thinking of knocking out one of the walls an extending it later on ..... maybe.
$$$ being the hold up
Okay I'am just having a dig Mitch I agree the platform would be good. A mate has one with the second jack similar to yours but my list has alot of things infront of a platform lift at the moment.
