Good day All;
I’ve been looking on the web trying to determine if Big Sur has re-opened after the devastating slides. Depending on what I find... it seems most is good to go but there is still talk of portions that are closed. I can’t seem to determine if the entire route is open, if if planning a detour is necessary.
Anybody in that neck of the woods have info on the state of the highway?
According to google maps right now, it is impossible to do Monterey to Cambria by the US !, a detour is offered instead.
Caltrans is working on the repair....
Stay on the US 101 then CA 46 West to go to Cambria. From there you can do about 25 miles on the Northbound of the US 1. The road is scenic but a Uturn will be in order.
I do know the Big Sur area pretty well, in case you are willing to do some "Goat Road" let me know. I will give some road to die for because of the scenery. I just want to make sure you are good doing back country side road.

Yes the link worked and thanks. I’ve added it to the GPS. It’s going to be so cool, I’ve waited to do this trip for 5 years now. I’m starting out in Glacier national park, road the the sun then working out way south to LA through Arizona, saving the coast for the trip home. There is something I like about riding along the ocean.
