best replacement battery?

Just curious because my '11 R3R is kept trickle charged in an unheated garage [waiting for a 50 degree day] and it's been cold in VA. i'm new to the R3 'family' having been a HD roadking guy for the longest time; almost got a HD glide until i road tested the Roadster, still can't get the smile off my face - honestly didn't know what to expect out of battery life in the R3 - hence the question, it's all new to me as is this forum ...i'll make sure i check the archives next time Ride Safe! Thanks for your responses.
 
there are some out there with the batter that came in them still working. its hit or miss on the battery. Mine crapped out after the firs tseason. Paul has the original one in his 04. Good luck when she dies put a scorpion battery in her.

Warp is right on the money. The stock batteries are a hit-n-miss affair. The Scorpion is a great replacement.

I have also recently performed the negative battery cable mod (basically increasing the size to 4 gauge wire). This seems to be helping a lot.

It also helps to "prime" the beast when cold-starting it. Turn on the ignition, let the gauges sweep and the fuel pump get some gas up into the heads, turn ignition off and then back on, once again. Seems to reduce starter motor effort, wear and consequently unnecessary load/drain on the battery as the motor will turn over more readily with that little bit of fuel priming.

You might see me blasting up and down 234 on occasion. I go to visit clients in Manassas every few weeks. Would really like for it to warm up a bit so I can do it on my bike rather than my truck.
 
Is there some sizing chart for motorcycle batteries?
If so, can anybody explain this?
The OEM battery is listed ONLY as a 20AH with NO brand or size designation.
How is one to know or learn what size battery to shop for?
Any help appreciated.
 
Steve here are specs for an OEM equivalent:

Their 500 CCA offering should be more than adequate, particularly if you keep the beast on a trickle charger as I do.

I think that Interstate has a HD replacement, sealed, AGM battery that puts out 550 CCA that I got very good service from.

Thanks for the info. I had followed a recommendation on this forum to get the Moto Batt MBTX24U only to receive it and discover it was the incorrect size. Was then told I could not return due to it being haz-mat. So $118 goes down the old $hit hole.
I have ordered another in a MBTX20U. Hope it works.
So, this is why I inquired and I appreciate your assistance.
I just do not understand why battery fitment has to be so ***in' cryptic!
