Still running my original battery from July '04.

That is impressive but you're past the battery manufacturers expiration date. It may seem strong now but at some point, that 5 year old battery is going to leave on the side of the road somewhere.

The bikes been sitting in the dealers since October waiting on parts for the tranny upgrade so I suspect it will be good and dead by now. I'm not pushing them yet as it is sitting in the warm and I won't be riding for a bit yet until things warm up here.

Since October!?

Did they have to widdle the parts out of a piece of wheat?

I had to jump start the bike this morning to get it started. It was near freezing. I've had the bike just a couple months shy of 2 years.

I never have any problems, I only connect the bat. tenders to my bikes when it is below freezing...

I fire my bikes up every other week and let them run until the fan kicks in. By the time the weather clears my bikes have burnt through the full tank of gas + seafoam that I start out with each winter and I can make it to the station to top them off and be ready for spring riding.

Mine wouldn't make it through an evening w/o a tender. Went camping a few months back tried to start it in the morning, no start. Glad I brought the tender with me, 30 min on the tender started right up. Glad I don't have to worry about that anymore since installing my "Pacemaker". You got me a little worried about that voltage regulator thingy though
