bad news everyone

I waited until the end of the year and got it at "invoice" Dec. 30th.
In the Dallas area the invoice that I was shown was $13423.72. That included a freight charge of around $500. If I remember correctly the MSRP was $ 15499.99. If you can stand it, wait until the end of Dec.
That was just my experience, I still feel like I got a good deal for a new bike.
Considering all things, absolutely no regrets.

i like the car i have now but want the golf. my point was that i am not yet ready to pay that much for anything, not that i would rather have the golf over the bike because in truth i'd rather have the bike over the car. this was just a ... "i have to wait to get the bike and i dont want to " post

I understand what you are saying, but when I bought my Classic in 2007 (new) and pretty loaded out with Beetle Bags, sissy bar/pad, luggage rack, foglights, front dresser bars, heated grips, fuel and clock gages and some other stuff my price was $20,000.

We are trying to say that the dealer (if he is doing anything at all for you...and that remains to be seen) is going MSRP and/or adding to that a "premium" as it is a new version of the Rocket and he feels he can get it. That may be so to some other buyer but obviously not for you.

One other thing, you never figure the cost of the motorcycle with the interest as your total cost basis for the simple reason that you can, as someone already mentioned, pay extra on the bike and limit the amount of interest you pay. That is one cost you can ultimately control.

They can charge you a 30% interest (as an example) but if you pay it off in one year they get nowhere near the amount of interest from the loan as they thought they were going to get.

My point was that $27,000 Golf, if you figured it out the way you were doing, would cost you significantly more (considering your hinted at high interest rate for having no credit) and easily push it probably past the $35,000 range.

I hear what your saying guys about the overall costs. and were I to buy the bike now I'd pay 920 a month rather than 347 the dealer was suggesting. I drive 250 miles to go back home every other weekend anyway maybe I can find a good deal on the west side of washington. I like my car, it gets 48 mpg and no matter how I drive. the golf is a car I want not need. I dont plan on buying a new car unless my tdi takes a dump and isnt feasable to repair.

please dont think im attacking anyone because I certainly am not. I just want to explain my self, and I realize it sounds like im on the attack.

Naw, it just sounds like you have your prioritys in order to me.
The mileage you mentioned, sure beats my 22 MPG on my black betty,
but hey, you gotta do what's right for you and your family first.
Toys are a luxury,
not a nescessity.
Besides, by waitting,
you'll be able to get the one you want cheaper..

Weather is crap - I get that, we all need a car occasionally. OCCASIONALLY... Do you get food delivered like all the main supermarkets do in the UK? If so, car is only used for some errands or for transporting other people and junk about.

Personally, I am getting shot of my 123D beemer (267bhp from a 2 litre twin turbo diesel) because even though I average 56mpg or so (not bad for a car which out accelerates a porsche between 100-150mph) I just dont use it often enough.

I am buying an old landrover defender - tomb raider style. An old diesel one, which gets good mpg for the occasional use going to mountain bike races, and carting crap about or for winter in scotland which it will come into its own for. £5k well spent on recycling - no point buying brand new - its actually more Green (yes, very much more so) to buy a second hand motor which has a diesel engine for good economy - even at 29mpg, its still greener to buy that than ANY new car..

Who gives a stuff about the car... its a box to keep you dry, get good mpg in and only get used occasionally... the Rocket will do most everything else if you get panniers fitted, and NEVER EVER EVER get stuck in traffic.. Feck yeah!

Get the roadster, and learn the way of bangernomics young man - get yourself an indestructible Euro barge which has hugely depreciated, and have the best of both worlds - bangernomics, cant be beaten... AND you can have a cooler car than a golf

Don't get me wrong...but you are getting ripped off. You can get a new 2009 from a dealer for $12K plus shipping on ebay! I picked up a NEW 2006 Classic for $10K.

Do a little more searching and you can get a new non-current (2009 or older) for well under $15K.

And I found my 05 std for 8k, with 2k goodies and only 3000 miles. There is a santa claus.

Don't know what is going on over there in Washington, but i'm from NJ and NY area which most things cost more and I just priced a Roadster at $14,999 so you figure $16,000 out the door.
