Back to mc tires

I got my tires replaced under the recall. Metzeler 880 Marathons. I've had these on previous bikes and easily get 15k on them. I was amazed at the difference in handling compared with the car tire. I had gotten used to having the c/t on for 5k miles and when I took off with the new Metzelers it was kind of unsettling for a few miles. Didn't last long.

I really do prefer the motorcycle tires. For me, it's all in the handling.

Crazyman, you are the first to state, respectably, the performance issues after truly giving the darkside a chance. I'm hoping to see a report of 12-14k on an Avon. Then I too may see the light.

Flipper, you likely get 10k on the Metz cause they get a long cooling off period between pavement exposures. Without exercise, hardening of the rubber sets in; which is apparently a good thing And the speed governor was helpful as well

That's a good explaination. I thought that sitting in the garage, the tire actually 'grew' some more tread. It does 'sit' quite a bit.

Darkside

Getting new 880 put on r3 today, 10,960 miles on original tire. Was considering darkside but dealer said that would void warranty. Yesterday was riding on 2 lane road and there was a section that right part of lane had been resurfaced. When I hit the edge of the repair, really had to gather it up to keep from going into oncoming traffic. Would this have been worse if had been darkside?

Rider, your stealer absolutely lied to you about voiding the warranty. Something like that would make me question ever taking my bike back to that dealer. That was a flat out lie.

After just picking up my bike and laying down $307.30, I definitely plan to go darkside next time. Probably would have this time truthfully had I been able to found somene to mount it. I did have an experience yesterday where I was riding and the oad crew on a narrow 2 lane road had done a patch of approx. 100 feet in the right land. When I hit it I really had to gather it up to keep it out of the opposite lane. This was the old tire, how would a CT reacted? Better/Worse. Thanks

After the first 100 miles the reaction will be as good or better, imho. Once you are accustomed to the feel of the CT, you won't even notice that it's anything different.

rider tdragger is right putting a car tire will not void warrenty i ask my dealer bout it a couple months ago and they said it would not

I wouldn't go that far. According to a reputable source, Car tires and trailer hitches are noted on the workorder anytime dealer service is performed. That work order becomes part of the bikes history and is tracked in Triumph's computer system. It might not void the warranty but it could be used for a warranty determination somewhere down the road.

The Maugneson Act prohibits any OEM from denying warranty claims because of aftermarket add on or employed acessories (in this country) but that don't mean the OEM can't pro-rate any repair.
