I'm installing some Avon Grips, and noticed 2 things. The new grip is about an inch longer than stock, and the spacing between the throttle cable locks is slightly larger. Should I let the extra length of the grip hang off the bar, or should I push it all the way in, thereby moving my mirrors and brake and clutch levers in an inch? Will the different spacing in the throttle cable securing points require cable length adjustment one installed (second picture, Avon on left, stock on right)?

Can not believe no one has a response? Avon has been around a while so we would have to say no on the cable length. do the math on the securing points I would slide it all the way in and double check after installation but have a good feeling it will work.

Remember the stock grips have bar weights on the ends, lengthwise may well not be much difference. (My Avons are on order, will have a looksee when they gey here.)

I believe cable wise they just need adjusted as normal, doubt it would take more than a winds or two on each adjuster to compensate.

The handlebars notches require that the brake and clutch lever mechanisms stay at the same location. So if I install the Avon grips, the grip will hang off the bar about 1" which will probably make too much slop in the grip. And if I install the bar weights on the ends, then I'll be increasing the handlebar width 2" on either end, which is unacceptable. And if I modify the handlebar tabs to move the clutch and brake mechanisms inward an inch, then my normal hand position will be narrower than stock and narrower than I'd prefer. I have a message into Avon tech support, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to return these, which is a shame because I like them and want them to work.

Side note, I tightened my stock grips too much and now my throttle sticks wherever I put it instead of returning to zero throttle. I know it's not safe, but it's pretty comfortable cruising around with a built-in throttle lock. :)

I've used Avon grips successfully without an issues whatsoever... Am I missing something??? Put a lot of miles on both the big ball grips and the normal type of grips.

I have those Avons on my touring and they are just fine. If you are worried about the extra length being empty cut a piece of PVC pipe and slide in there to fill the gap.
