I have had my R3 for a year, and today is the first time I have ever noticed this wire under the throttle on the handlebar. It isn't connected to anything and I can't see anything within reach of it that it is connected to / or should be connected to it. Anyone know what it's for??

Since you say you've had the bike for a year, and it looks like its an 07 model, I'm guessing the previous owner installed something. Can't tell for sure from the picture what kind of connector that is. If its a phone line type connector, I'd guess radar detector.

This is normally stuffed inside the right side switch housing. At least it is in mine. It is probably for the switch that isn't mounted in the blank space on the right switch.

The inside of it has 2 little pins of the same size. The wire comes up through the same rubber tubing the wiring for the rear brake light switch comes though. I guess if it runs and stops and all the bells and whistles on it works (which there are mercifully few) I guess it will just continue to be a mystery :)

If I remember mine right the Rocket had a two toggle switch box on the left handlebars. One switch was for the heated grips and the other for the fog lights ... I would guess that it is a connector to that box and if you bought it used the previous owner removed it for whatever reason.
