What is your objection to the cut-off version?

Not really a big deal. I prefer to not have it simply to protect myself from myself.

Another Captain nearby installed the kit with the switch and he would always head out on a ride with his headlights off. The tickets he got weren't cheap. I would surely do the same thing.

I understand the usefulness of switching the lights off during fiddling under the seat but I just pull the fuse instead.

I have done that on several occasions! I put my switch under the seat to hide it. Luckily if someone points it out I just flip high beams on until I get to a place to stop.
