Welcome from Denton Texas.
I too am youthfully challenged. I have a Rocket 3 standard (of which has been superseded by the new Roadster. I bought a Roadster to get me by while my Standard is in the shop.
If you get an R3 I highly recommend you NOT get a Roadster as it is not as ergonomically suited to us older folk. The handle bars are farther away and the riding pegs moved back for the more sporty positioning. It just killed my upper back and almost put it on the market the next day after purchase. I have made some seat and handlebar adjustments that will get me by until I get the Standard back on the road. At that time, I will be parting ways with the Roadster. I bet you'd be more of a candidate for a Classic R3.
And, most of all....Thank you for your service. Hope to see you in Maggie Valley.
