we are 3 riders experimenting this phenomenon I have spent oodles of dollars for what I perceived to be a transmission problem and it was not , another member said the tune installed in his rocket caused this slapping noise and by changing it for another the slapping disappeared he claimed that the cause was probably a late or misfire in one of the cylinder I have a tune from a dyno shop and I am going there in may to see if they can chase that "slapping noise" by changind something in the tune if it does I will report it to you
by gassing up I meant when riding and opening the throttle past 3000 rpm

Mine does this also, but in every gear. Slop in a the various gears, splines, etc. If you are sure its only ONE gear, id have Triumph take a look. I took mine in under warranty for hard shifting just to be on record. Its good now, but when it was new it was stiff.

Something you could try : on a lift rotate the rear wheel by hand back and forward to see just how much play there is in each gear. You could probably also do it on the ground.

Put the bike on a stand so that the rear wheel is off the ground. Put the bike in 1st gear and then move the rear wheel forward and backwards to feel the free play. Now do it in all the other gears. You will feel a difference in each gear.

When you are riding you notice this most in 5th gear when going lightly on and off the throttle.

mine does it in 3th 4th and 5th from at around 2800rpm and only when loading on the power or riding up a hill and not following the rpm rhythm so very intermittent very strange ... I had the trans mission worked over by robinson industries and the "slapping is still happening ... still a mystery. I stay out the rpm range as much as possible to avoid any explosion
