I just reached 2000 miles today. I've only had the Rocket three weeks. Wow, I guess I do ride a lot.

Only one thing to note: The sides of the tank are marked up / scratched where my legs make contact. I guess I'm not spreading my legs enough !

I'm going to look around for some sort of tank protector.

some folks mentioned a clear 3M tape that might serve your purpose. It's a special protectant tape specifically made to protect paint finishes.

Contact these folks. I noticed the same on my Rocket a couple years ago. They didn't offer one for the standard Rocket at the time. I was familar with them because I had their product on my speed triple so I emailed them. They went to a dealer to make a pattern and got a set to me in a week.

I thought you were supposed to hold on with your legs when riding a horse, not a motorcycle?

It's not an issue of holding on so much as the friggin tank is very wide. Of course you'd know that. My legs do tend to sit against the sides. The scratched areas are just behind the Triumph badge on the rear, and a bit on the chrome bear claw. I suppose it's only more noticeable because of the black color. My other bikes had similar issues, but weren't black.

I found a product that I stand behind because it works for me; though not necessarily as advertised: Glare Polish is sum good protectant! Glare :: Auto Polish :: Home The burnished area to wit the forward face of the saddle puts on the tank finish look like a 400 sand paper was attacking it. A Glare Polish product sold, only outside of the manufacturer, by Honda is called Honda Glare Professional. It's remarkable for it's possibilities of wiping out dents:D Seriously! It works for me. Whether it's the tuff saddle rub or a bit of chaffing from leathers. It ain't cheap.

Or you could douche yourself down with Pam cooking spray before each ride:rolleyes:

I had my tank scuffed by the time I goy it 2 miles home from taking delivery. It's got to be the paint job itself that's prone to marks. I've discovered in my two months & 1300 miles that the coldest part of my body on any ride hangs on that tank.

I will look on mine the next time I get on it as I haven't noticed it and I have 5200 miles on it now. I did learn not to let my short legged friends to sit on it as the first one that did scratched the lid of a saddlebag, I spent a whole day with the buffer working on that bag.:D
