Looking at lowering the R3R 1in using the:

Rocket III ('04+) - #1529 Front Adjustable Suspension Lowering Kit for lowering 0"-2" from
Scootworks - Triumph Lowering Kits and Suspension Accessories

and

Ikon Lowered Suspension for the Triumph Rocket III from
Ikon Shocks for the New Triumph Rocket III

Anyone lowered their rides? Advice? Issues?

I'm only 5'7" and would like better footing when stopped. Will add a corbin seat which will lower me another 1.5". Then I should be good to go.

I to am waiting on on a set of shocks to lower my '11 Roadster 1 inch. I went with the 11.5" 440s in black from Progressive. I have the same problem with height and wanting more foot control when stopped. I also just put a custom Corbin seat on and it lowered me about 2 inches. If you haven't already ordered the seat I highly recommend the rumble seat for the rocket. It's one of the coolest ideas I've seen for bikes in general in a long time. Check it out on Corbin's website. You get a fold up sissy bar when you have a passenger and you can get it heated! And yes, the heat is worth the extra 150 bucks! I will warn you as I'm sure you've heard if you've asked around about Corbin...their products are still amazing, but their customer service, not so much.
Let me know how the ride is after you put the lowered suspension on. I will do the same. I have been told that I would be alright just lowering the rear 1 inch and leaving the front stock, but would like to know how it rides doing both front and rear.
Good luck

USMC-R3,

Did you just order the saddle off the site (only list up to 09 R3s) or did you do a ride in?

I have used the corbin solo for my last two bike (07 Softtail & 08 Raider) and love them. We ride about 20k miles a year and it helps a lot. I have the backrest & luggage rack installed (prefer that setup for travel) so the rumble seat wouldn't work.

Thanks for the info!

Bagman,

My Triumph dealer actually conferred with Corbin and they said that it would work, and luckily it did. I had them install it when they did the 500 mile service a couple of weeks ago.

This was my first custom seat and wow what a difference! My 8 year old really likes the fold up seat because he has deemed it his own secret place.

I've got the rocket Tourer , I had the same issues , could'nt reach the floor , in fact it got that bad i was going to trade it on a road king , Anyway last ditched effort , i put on the ikon shockers which dropped the rear 35 mm, We then lowered the front , through the triple tree 25 mm.

Anyway end result , I can reach the floor flat footed , gives me heaps more confidence in the tight slow riding , with the missis on the back its a lot easier now the centre of gravity is lowered ,

And the biggest plus i believe the bike handles better in the twisties , All in all the best money i've spent on the bike

USMC,
Outstanding, just ordered the Corbin solo and gunfighter backrest. thanks for the info!!

coneye,

Good to hear. looks like another parts order coming.

Received the above item in last night. It is NOT a lowering kit. It is replacement progressive springs only. Stock height. Still waiting to see if Scootworks will fix the problem for their false advertising.

I have a used set of the shorty chrome Ikons for sale. They have about 5k miles on them. When I went darkside, they were too short for my 300 lbs and ended up with the fender rubbing the tire.

Will offer up for $250 plus shipping ($450 new at newr3.com).

Thanks tdragger, I ordered a set of those when I ordered (what I thought was) the front fork lowering kit.

btw, Scoot Wroks response was... Oh, you didn't get instructions on how to modify your spacers to lower the bike.

My response was: NO, and a KIT should have everything you need in it. Not what parts you have to mod.

Bagman,
Just got my 440s on last week and they are amazing. I actually have both feet flat on the ground, it's a miracle! I haven't noticed any difference in the ride by only lowering the rear an inch, any negative difference anyway. It actually rides great and corners just as good, probably because I'm more comfortable on it.

I would recommend anybody with short legs to do both the custom seat and the lower rear springs to get a more confident ride on the beast.
