    Top speed on your Touring?

08 R3T with screen and bags on - got up to 100 / 120 ish in Death Valley when a slow but increasing weave started - slow deceleration and very very gentle braking got her back pointing straight. New Metzler on rear, older Metz on front. Checked everything and finally changed the front for an...

    There's always one .....

The saying 'A VMAX can pass anything, except a gas station' came to mind :-)

    There's always one .....

So yesterday a group of us went out for a 200m ride out from Las Vegas to Oatman AZ and back. I was on the R3T and we had about 14 HD's and 1 Gold Wing. All was good and well behaved for the most part, until we headed out of Laughlin where there is a cool stretch of road with long twisties and...

    Tank Slapper

It wasn't a full blown tank slapper - had one of those one and never want to go through that again (On a CBX 1000) - but this was a gradual increase in the weave that kicks it off - at around 130mph it got my attention real quick and I had a moment I thought I'd lost it.

    Tank Slapper

I was giving them some space before I dropped it into 3rd :-)

    Tank Slapper

OK - Got rid of the Metz - on with the Avon Cobra's - it's like a new bike. No weaving, a lot lighter in a straight line and stick's like glue in the corners. Very happy camper right now.

    Tank Slapper

This is why I went a tad over 55mph

    Tank Slapper

Oh, and FYI I put Tripp's map in, which raises the speed limiter to 'holy crap'

    Tank Slapper

What make of tire was it and did you put the same back on!

    Tank Slapper

Thanks for the feedback guys. I put a new rear Metz on a few weeks ago and I have an aging Metz on the front. Pressures are OK and I don't see anything untowards with it. So I guess I'll just get it changed sooner rather than later and take the old girl back up there and see what happens. But...

    Tank Slapper

Ona couple of occasions I have had the opportunity to take my 2008 R3T over 120mph. Both times have been very nerve racking. So at 120 + the bike becomes very unstable and the preverbial tank slapper starts. My first thought is that it is the windshield causing it. I have the half size screen...

    Breakaway cruise control

I had to trim the throttle grip to make it fit snug and then, and only then, will the bar they are referring to, reach. I posted some pics on here somewhere. I will post link if I can find it. http://www.r3owners.net/threads/breakaway-cruise-control.18244/

    Breakaway cruise control

Went on my 2008 T - works well. Bar's and controls are same size I think.

    Desert Water Temps

Yup - I have been out here for 18 yrs now and riding most of it. Oil sure takes a beating, whic\h is why I tend to change it very often!

    Desert Water Temps

I have seen them on HD - but not for the R3 - The reason I was going for Water Temp is that if the fan should fail then I can catch it before it becomes an issue. Same for the general engine temp. Out here we change oil very regularly as sitting in traffic at 110F (air temp) tends to beat up...

    Desert Water Temps

Being out in the Nevada Desert where temperature is over 100F most of the day for 6+ Months, I think a water temperature gauge on the R3T is probably a good move. I have found this: http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/triumph-rocket-iii-temperature-gauge-365-p.asp Has anyone fitted one? Any other...

    R3T derestricting

So - took the old gal out to stretch her legs last night and I am happily impressed. Remember, this is a 2008 Touring - Stock - so my approach is to see what can be had before I start adding go faster goodies. I happily found myself at stop lights, at the front, with nothing in the way of a drag...

    R3T derestricting

Put this map in last night. Bike is stock so I thought this would be a good place to start before I go shopping. Not been very far on it yet, but the power response seems smoother. Haven't had the chance to open it up yet, I'll go the long way home tonight and find me some clear desert roads to...

    That should buff right out...

Not quite the way he wanted to 'get air' I'm guessing.
