Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

The EarthX battery has a circuit that goes 'off when it gets drawn down to much. So it shows '0' When it clicks back on, it comes in at 13.7v Also, the charging system tests fine. It also draws down when I leave it parked... meaning, the charging system is not related to the issue...

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

I tried this out... I left the bike parked for 3 days, did not introduce the key and used my multimeter to test to see if there was any draw at all. Still zero. Yet, the battery needed a recharge... I am still stumped. Tested the relays... clicking away fine.

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

Battery tests to 570CCA out of the original 630CCA. Voltage at 13.5 or so. Even when starting it does not drop below the limit. Charging system also tests fine and exceeds what is consumed by the lights/accessories. This machine has already killed multiple batteries.... all go through...

The 'Aliens' explanation may be all that remains after I have eliminated all the other options. I have been search for this mystery drain for 4 years already. Even the offical dealers have no idea.

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

Thanks, I will take a look at that. When I tested the charging system (Got a handy little tool for that) it was generating plenty of juice to charge the battery.... certainly enough to cover the use of all the lights / accessories and charge the battery. Battery shows up as 570CCA out of the...

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

Thanks, the anti-gravity ones have been a help for when the bike needs a Jump. Only problem is the size of the rocket III Even the top of the line XP-10 will give you only one or two cranks.... if that does not start the bike you have to trickle charge the battery. At least the anti-gravity...

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

Indeed, the position after lock will keep a light on. I have learned to avoid that one..... the hard way as always. (Paranoid in checking twice after parking the bike)

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

Thanks for the advise... my situation is much the same. I ride the bike all winter long (Boston) and it is parker outside as well. Issue is I travel a lot for work and when I land Friday morning and need head into work 50% of the time the bike won't start. (Especially when a snow storm...

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

Indeed, top of the battery is clean. Multimeter is working fine - tested it on the UBS outlet to see how much my iphone draws... spot on. Set to mA. It is like something switches back on after the bike is switched off.

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

So, am using a standard AC / DC multimeter. ranging from 20 amps all the way down to milliamps. Terminals are clean. I have changed multiple batteries on this thing trying to solve the problem but the issue remains. Currently a 630 CCA EarthX, which my battery tester assesses at 570CCA...

Parasitic Drain, 2014 Rocket III Touring - Mystery: Multimeter shows zero draw with the key out

It is the strangest thing... if I leave the Rocket parked for 1 week, the battery is completely dead. I upgraded to a much larger lithium EarthX battery, now it takes 2 weeks before the battery dead, dead, stone dead. Spent hours with my multimeter... this bike shows 0 (zero) draw with the...
